In San Mateo County, falls account for 80% of accidental injury deaths in individuals over the age of 85, and 20% in ages 75 to 84. The mission of the San Mateo County Fall Prevention Task Force is to decrease falls among older adults through advocacy, resource development and community education.
On Sept. 12, the U.S. Senate passed S.Res. 553 designating Sept. 22, 2012 as National Falls Prevention Awareness Day (FPAD).
In his last year in the Senate, Sen. Kohl (D-WI) once again took the lead on this important effort to raise awareness and encourage the prevention of falls among older adults. Six Senators who have cosponsored this resolution in the past once again lent their support this year. Read More>
